Helen Watson

Chair Person

Helen works in governance across the non-profit sector in Nelson. In addition to the Workstar board, she is currently Chair of the Victory Primary School Board of Trustees, as well as the newly appointed Chair of Victory Community Centre. She is on the board of the Safeguarding Children’s Initiative and is a member of the Governance Group for Te Kāhui Ako ki Whakatū. In her spare time, Helen works as a researcher in the health sector.  

John Jackson


John is a strong believer in supported employment where a little help to get started can result in a client gaining the confidence to ultimately become independent.  John is a business consultant and has worked in a wide range of industries and now works mainly for government agencies in Wellington. He has lived and worked in the UK, USA and Hong Kong and is married with two adult children.

Margot Harkness


Margot is a solicitor practising in Stoke. She has practised in both Auckland and Nelson and has a broad range of legal knowledge including family law, trusts and estate planning, estate administration and company law.

Mike Stevens


Mike was born and raised in the Nelson area and in 2005 returned after many years away. Mike worked for Massey University in Applied Technology and Science and more recently has been involved in function and event organisation. Since 1993 Mike has lived with poor partial vision and can empathise with many of WORKSTAR's clients facing perceived barriers to employment. 

Caroline Heissner


Caroline is an HR manager in the retail sector and is currently studying a Bachelor of Business at Massey University. She brings a passion for employment relationship and management to WORKSTAR. Caroline was born and raised in the Tasman area, later living in Wellington and abroad.
